Teaching in Everyday Experiences

The old adage "Do what I say, not what I do" is important for two reasons. First, it recognizes that it is much easier for those in leadership, i.e. parents, to tell others what to do than it is for parents to actually do the right things themselves. The other reason the phrase is so important is because it recognizes that the tendency is to do what you see someone else do rather than what they tell you to do, hence the need for the phrase to command actions against the natural tendency.

How do we teach in everyday experiences?

1. model the behavior we want our children to have

2. explain what we are doing and why it is important
